— Patrick Dempsey, Grey’s Anatomy ex Dr. Sheperd, racing driver and TAG Heuer replica watches ambassador, visited La Chaux-de-Fonds.
Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of TAG Heuer replica watches UK and President of the Watch Division of the LVMH Group, spelled it out at the press conference: TAG Heuer recruits its ambassadors from four sectors: motor racing, the arts, lifestyle and heritage.
On August 24th, the Manufacture Replica TAG Heuer Watches in La Chaux-de-Fonds brought together two completely different representatives of the brand, but who share the same passion for motor racing: Jack Heuer, the brand’s “legend and living memory” and Patrick Dempsey, TAG Heuer ambassador since last year with his Patrick Dempsey MotorRacing Team, and who embodies both motor racing and lifestyle equally well.
Ayrton Senna’s helmet
On a tour of European racing tracks, the actor and driver stopped off at La Chaux-de-Fonds to visit the Manufacture, which houses within its premises the company museum of which he was given a personal tour by Jack Heuer. Taking time to look at a great many archive photographs of racing, the two men shared a long list of memories. The highlight of the visit was a stop at the display window containing Ayrton Senna’s helmet. “I think Senna changed the face of motor racing. When he qualified for Monaco, he spoke of transcendence. He trained himself to transcend his physical attributes and to move into the spiritual realm. Physically he was also ahead of his time and he made a strong impression on his rivals. After meeting Senna, Prost was never the same again” said Dempsey.
The visit continued through the Manufacture’s various workshops. In the After-Sales Service Department, Patrick Dempsey was visibly delighted to recover his “Monaco” with its red strap that he recently damaged during a competition and that was returned to him as good as new by an employee of the Manufacture, who was heartily thanked by the actor.
Skiing and motor racing
Patrick Dempsey follows in the footsteps of Steve McQueen, actor and driver ambassador of the brand, with whom he also shares great charm and a blue-eyed gaze. “My collaboration with TAG Heuer started with Le Mans” he explains. “As a sponsor, TAG Heuer has supported me in my passion for motor racing and this has continued. You’ve seen the museum: TAG Heuer is more interested in cars than celebrities. The first time we met, it was very special. We talked about skiing. When I was young, I dreamed of being a ski champion. I also wanted to discover TAG Heuer’s passion and its creations and that is why I am here today. When one visits the workshops here, one can see the passion of the people who work here and how committed they are. When I look at my Replica IWC Watches now, I see it differently. It is even more precious than before.”
Asked about his 50th birthday that he will celebrate next January, Patrick Dempsey admits that he doesn’t feel his age. “I feel much younger and I am in better shape today than when I was 20. I have cut my hair shorter in order to look younger (laughs) but aging doesn’t bother me. I almost think that life is just starting now. And motor racing keeps me young because it forces me to remain in excellent physical shape. Having a passion in which you can indulge, makes you feel again. I feel as young as when I was a kid and I dreamed of going to the Olympic Games.”
“Don’t crack under pressure”
How does this driver, who placed second at the most recent Le Mans 24 Hours, in the GTam category, clocking up an average speed of 205 km/h, withstand the pressure of competition? “If you are well-rooted in the present, if you live the moment and react to that which is happening now, you succeed. But if you think about it too much and you worry about the future and the past, you’ll crack” he analyses. Guided by this insight, the TAG Heuer ambassador, who made no secret of the fact that he has new television projects in the pipeline including one on Formula 1, adopts TAG Heuer’s motto as his own: “Don’t crack under pressure.”
